There are many places to take a break while you are in the parks. I’m not talking about taking a nap in the Hall of Presidents or any other attraction, just places to sit and relax for a bit while you take in where you are. There are a few spots that jump right out at me and we will begin in the Magic Kingdom. One of the first places I think of is the second floor of the Main Street Train Station. From there you can sit and relax with a picturesque view down Main Street USA. You can overlook Town Square watching excited kids and adults who are overjoyed to be there. Or watch the people do character meet and greets. If you look straight down Main Street USA there is an incredible view with several American flags flapping in the breeze and the castle at the end which is larger than life. Another place in the Magic Kingdom to take a step back and appreciate the wonder of all that is in front of you, is on Tom Sawyer’s Island, more specifically the rocking chairs at Aunt Polly’s (which is now closed but you can make use of the chairs). From there you can hear the sounds of the Haunted Mansion, the Liberty Belle River Boat and the screams from Splash Mountain. You have great views of Liberty Square and Frontierland (and the other guests as they run from attraction to attraction while you sit back in your rocking chair and relax). This is also a nice place to watch the afternoon parade from if you don’t mind looking from afar. You can also find a shady place to sit in the Tomorrowland Terrace. There is a nice view of the castle and our kids have enjoyed watching an afternoon show while out of the sunshine.
Over in Epcot there are benches surrounding World Showcase Lagoon that overlook the lagoon. Here you have your back to the crowd but you get to appreciate the design of each building and landscape of the countries represented. These views are just as impressive at night as they are during the day. In Future World take a seat and watch the Fountain of Nations as the water dances to music. From there you are in the center of Future World and have great views of Spaceship Earth and World Showcase.
At Hollywood Studios, benches lining the streets of Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard are a great place to sit and see impromptu “Streetmousphere” shows which you could find yourself in the middle of. If you are looking for a quieter place to sit, try the benches on Streets of America. You can imagine yourself in the middle of one of your favorite movies.
Animal Kingdom has a wide variety of places to sit and relax. If you want to people watch, the Dawa Bar is a great place for that. However, if you are looking for more exotic animals there are benches through out the Pangani Exploration Trail and the Maharaja Jungle Trek. Another location to take in the animals is watching the monkeys near Kali River Rapids. They are a great distraction while waiting for someone on the rapids and they are just fun to watch in general.
Whatever place you decide to sit and relax at, just take a moment to take a step back and really look at what is going on around you. The Imagineers have added so much detail and hidden gems all over each park. If you take time to sit you may just see more than attractions and crowds.
