Are we? Are we better off now than before?
Lots of folks like to bemoan that Walt Disney World has increased prices to the point that those families who have been going for many years are getting less value now. I thought it would be interesting and fun to actually examine that a bit further. After all, it’s easy to throw out a judgement when you have already decided the verdict. So let’s see what has really happened within the changes of the World…
Florida’s original family destination the Magic Kingdom gave most of us our first experience of the magic…then came Epcot with a completely different feel….now we have 4 fun-filled parks to choose from each morning…
Two charming hotels…then 8…now we have over 20 resorts on property to stay at….if only to give our families a different them pool to try..
Monorail or car to get to the park? Well now you have those..plus boats and buses…(as well as a sweet walk from Epcot resorts area into the back of World Showcase)…
Nostalgia of burgers and fries in between all day marathon at the park….compared to 50 theme park and resort restaurants serving all types of food imaginable….
Waiting at rope drop with the masses….or getting in an hour early with Extra Magic Hours…
As many fastpass tickets as we could run to get ….or the ease of securing 3 of favorite rides from home before we even leave for our trip…
Adults sampling a new beverage around world showcase….to now enjoying lounges around the parks and resorts (as well as a glass of wine or beer inside the newest magic kingdom restaurant)…
Waiting in lines for character autographs with dozens of other families….yielding to organized meet and greets ….(and countless character meals where autographs are even easier)..
Handful of E ticket attractions…leading to multiple headline thrill rides and classic family attractions across those aforementioned FOUR theme parks….

So…changes have happened….Walt Disney World may not be as quaint as it was 20 years ago…or even 10 years ago. Walt Disney and his family may not be overseeing the direction as in the past. For some that past represented lower costs, more quality time with each character, each attraction.

Well here’s one person’s judgement: Disney will continue to invest in its product…and they will continue to increase prices as part of that…WDW will continue to grow and to change….as many of us believe Walt would have done himself had he still been here…

….and to me, that means we are better off today than we were yesterday.
