There is no secret that a Disney World vacation is expensive and the bigger your family the more expensive it is. However there are little souvenirs that are free and entertaining. Take the resorts for example, say you have just arrived and you do not want to buy an extra day on a park ticket. What is there to do? The first example will be the pools. I know you can’t take them home, but while you are there they have kids activities from trivia to dance contests during certain times of the day. During these activities they give away prizes for all sorts of reasons. When it gets dark enough, most resorts offer out door movies or fires to toast marshmallows. Many resorts have crafts for kids to do or scavenger hunts. If you are a Disney Vacation Club member you can all borrow movies for free at the resort’s rec hall. Or there is my wife’s favorite, ask Mousekeeping for extra soap and shampoo to bring home for that extra Disney magic after your vacation.

Besides the Disney transportation being free, have your kids ask the boat captains, bus drivers or monorail pilots for trading cards of their specific mode of transportation. They are numbered in case you want to collect all of them.

There are actually a few things you can get in all of the parks, one of which is a free button. There are buttons for first time visitors, anniversaries, newly weds, getting engaged or any number of celebrations. Along with wearing your free button an observant Cast Member who sees it may do something special for you. Kids are also given stickers almost everywhere.

In the Magic Kingdom you can get Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom trading cards free at the Fire Station on Main Street or behind the Christmas Shoppe in Liberty Square. You can get one pack of cards per person per day as long as you open one “portal” each visit. There is a pirate theme game in Adventureland, A Pirates Adventure: Treasures of the Seven Seas. In the game, you get a map and a talisman to help you find the five treasures through out Adventureland.

Over in Epcot, you can do the Kidcot Fun Stops. Here you can decorate a cardboard Disney Character and take it to each World Showcase country and have it stamped like a passport. The Cast Members will also write your child’s name on it in their native language. At Club Cool in Future World you can taste a variety of sodas from around the world. The Beverly soda is disgusting and if you know this ahead of time it is fun to watch an unsuspecting victim, I mean family member try it. One of the other free items at Epcot is sponsored by Visa. If you are a Disney Visa card holder you can get a free 5×7 picture with Disney characters.

In Hollywood Studios, your child can always come home with some gold doubloons (foil paper) from Disney Junior Live On Stage.

At Animal Kingdom there is a new adventure on Discovery Island called Wilderness Explorers. In the game you go to different areas of the park and earn Wilderness Explorer badges (stickers) while learning about things in the park.

Happy hunting for your Disney freebies.
